Garden Storage Chest
Please advice? I have a 2 not treated pine boxes that I want to adapt to the planters for the garden?
Can you tell me if its agreement to paint or stain and not damage the plants I have, also, where should I start? I can say fill with earth floors, drainage, etc. Thanks for the tips beforehand.
Paint or stain the outside boxes do not damage plants, but leave the interior untreated. You can paint the top of the couple inches inside to give the look more carefully. Oh, and be sure to get a quality outdoor paint or stain – it will last longer and protect the wood longer. For other container, drainage is necessary. The best option is to drill holes in the lower chest to the excess water to drain. If you do not want the water to drain, you should be careful with over-watering and excessive rain – it is better to have holes in the bottom. You can also line the inside of the chest with plastic again, making sure that there are holes in the plastic. Plastic plugs will last a little longer. Fill the bottom of the chest with one or two inches of gravel – more or less depending on the size of the breast. This will help drainage. Then fill with the mixture of good quality soil – try one with a slow release fertilizer, or pay the plants regularly. Find your plants! grade must be one inch below the upper chest – leaves room for the water runoff.
