How to figure out bike tire size if the size isn't on the tire at all?
I have an old bicycle in my shed. I've used it often several years ago to get to and from work. I'm trying to give it to my nephew who needs it badly to get around. I looked on the tire to find the size but it sorta faded away from all my riding back and forth through town. Also, I called a bike repair shop and they want to charge me in order to inspect it but I don't have the money to do that. Is there anyway I can determine the tire size without having to pay much and taking it anywhere? They're trying to charge me 50 bucks. I can't afford to pay that.
I need the tire size in order to get a new inner tube for the bike.
The tire size isn't on ANY of the tires.
Remove the tire, take it into Wal-Mart and match it up with another tire -- EXACTLY match the bead diameter. Then read the size off the tire it matches. Buy the new tube for that size, and the new tire if you need the tire as well.
$50 for an inspection is a rip off. Perspective: $50 for a tire, tube, and mounting is cheaper than one tire (no tube) out the door unmounted for my bike.
You could check out another bike shop -- chances are only that one is going to try to charge you for an "inspection".

here's the story
i'm 17 i joined a volunteer fire district, we have a 16 year old kid who was riding his bike to a call the district. He got hit by a car on the way to the fire house. He was out of action for a little bit but is fine and he likes to try and shed light on what happened. Now all of the guy bust him every chance we get. His birthday is coming up.

I'm not aware of any bike lights that are red or blue. All headlights I've seen are white and all taillights I've see are red. In most states that's what's required under the traffic law.
Many bike headlights are helmet mounted, though, and some have a flashing mode for use in the twilight hours for extra visibility. A steady white headlight and red taillight are required after sunset, though.
There is one light I've seen that is available for police bikes, but I don't know if any special paperwork is required to purchase one. Here's a link:

(Edit) Actually, I just looked over the specs for the Nite Rider light and it is available with red and/or blue lenses that flip down over the white light. Maybe something like this would work for you. Warning: They are a bit on the expensive side, but they are great lights. I've had a system for about 5 years and it works great.
